Competitive exams are one of the many things that have seen a surge in the number of applicants along with the level of competition. It is important to note that in a nation where private jobs are still considered uncertain and short-term, most people attempt for government competitive entrance exams for jobs due to the guarantee of long term regular work and pay.

RRB Group D
This exam is conducted for the recruitment of Group D employees in the Railways, such as gatekeeper, cabin man, welder, etc. the objective of starting with this exam is to convey the fact that railway exams are comparatively easier than other competitive exams.
The exam is divided into two stages for convenience of conduction, the first being a computer-based exam conducted in online mode and the second being a physical efficiency test.

The four sections are general English, numerical ability, general intelligence and general awareness for 25 marks each, with each section having 25 questions with one mark for each weightage.
At the starting point, the salary is around Rs. 18000/- along with other basic payments and allowances such as House rent allowance (HRA), Overtime allowance (OTA), Dearness Allowance (DA), etc. Group D employees are promoted to the Group C category after three years of service after a series of internal promotions.
RRB NTPC
RRB NTPC is another major recruitment exam for the Indian Railways. NTPC recruits candidates for the non-technical posts in this sector. NTPC recruitment includes Tier 1-Computer-Based Exam followed by another Tier 2-Computer Based Exam followed by Skill Test and then Document Verification & Medical Examination.
Both the tiers are a 90-minute exam with similar subjects being tested with different mark allotments. The tier 1 exam is for 100 marks with a numerical ability of 30 marks, General Intelligence and General Awareness of 40 marks each. Whereas Tier 2 exam is for 120 marks, with 35 marks for Numerical Ability and General Intelligence each and 50 marks for General Awareness.
The basic pay is R.19,900 along with allowances that include HRA, DA which adds an increase in the in-hand salary up to 30,00/- to 40,000/-
SSC Multi-Tasking Staff
Staff Selection Commission is one of the premier Indian recruiting agencies in the case of central government jobs. SSC CHSL, SSC MTS and SSC CGL are the most important recruitment by SSC on a yearly basis.
Any individual with the eligibility of 10th pass can apply for SSC MTS recruitment. The candidate needs to have passed the Matriculation/SSLC Exam or something equivalent to the same from a recognized board. The age limit should be between 18 and 27, as of the date of examination.
The examination procedure includes a CBT exam and a descriptive exam. There are four sections of General English, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and General Intelligence, each section containing 25 questions with one mark each. The time duration for the same is 90 minutes. The descriptive exam includes essay/ letter writing with a 30-minute time limit and 50 marks.
The salary of an MTS is around Rs.18,000/-Rs.22,000/- per month. They are also eligible for allowances as the other government employees. They become eligible to apply for promotion after completion of 3 years of service.
SSC Stenographer
SSC Stenographer is the next most preferred exam. The presence of attractive salary perks and a low-pressure working atmosphere attract candidates the most in their search for work.
The selection process includes a Tier 1 exam and a skill test. There are three sections of English Language of 100 questions with one mark each, General Awareness and General Intelligence of 50 questions each with one mark each. The duration of the exam is 120 minutes, and the total marks are 200.
There is a basic pay of- Rs.5200/- to Rs.34,800 /- and other allowances are included along with the basic pay grade. A stenographer is eligible for promotion and can get promoted to the position of Senior Private Secretary in Central Service.
SSC CHSL
Combined Higher Secondary examination is organized in 3 stages. Tier 1 is a computer-based exam, while Tier 2 is a descriptive test, and Tier 3 includes a skill test.
There are four sections of General English, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and General Intelligence, each section containing 25 questions with two marks each. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
The in-hand salary of an SSC CHSL employee is approximately Rs.36,500/- which also includes a basic pay of Rs.25,500/- and other allowances. The employee becomes eligible for promotion after 5 years of service. Promotion opportunities are available to Section Officer, Chief Supervisor etc., regarding the department you may be working for.
IBPS clerk exams
IBPS is the statutory body that conducts exams for Public Sector Banks in India. Compared to the PO exams, clerical level exams are easy to crack. With the presence of transparency and the rapid pace with which exams are conducted, and results are published, IBPS recruitment is attractive to candidates due to the lack of severe hassle. The selection process in IBPS as well as in SBI includes prelims, mains and language proficiency tests.
The exam is conducted in two levels of prelims and mains.
Prelims have three sections- English language of 30 questions of one mark each, Reasoning Ability of 35 questions of one mark each, and Quantitative Aptitude of 35 questions of one mark each. The total time duration for prelims is 60 minutes, with 20 minutes being allotted to each section.

IBPS Specialist Officer Exams
IBPS conducts another major recruitment process for Specialist Officers. Every year, IBPS releases recruitment notifications for the Specialist Officers cadre. Candidates are eligible to apply for different vacancies, including Agriculture Officer, Law Officer etc., the candidates applying need to have some basic qualifications such as an undergraduate degree in the field of application.
Prelims Pattern for Law Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikari
English with 50 questions of half marks each, reasoning with 50 questions of one mark each, and general awareness with a specific focus on banking with 50 questions of one mark each. The total time duration given to complete the exam is 120 minutes, and the total marks are 125.
Prelims Pattern for Agriculture Officer, HR, IT, Marketing
English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability with the same mark allotments as for Rajbhasha Adhikari and Law Officer. The total time duration is 120 minutes, and the total marks are 125.
Mains Pattern for Law Officer, HR, Agriculture Officer, Marketing Officer, Personnel Officer, IT
There is only one section of Professional Knowledge of 60 questions of one mark each. The time duration for the same is 45 minutes.
Mains Pattern of Rajabhasha Adhikari
There are two sections of Professional Knowledge [Objective] of 45 questions and Professional Knowledge [Descriptive] of 2 questions. The maximum mark is 60, and the time duration for the whole is 60 minutes, with a division of 30 minutes to each section.
The basic pay of the SO officer is Rs.23,700/- The other allowances include DA, HRA Special Allowances, which are added to the in-hand salary, and it increases the salary to around Rs.35,000/- per month. The SO officer becomes eligible for promotion to a scale of General Manager through internal promotions and other exams.
Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET)
CTET examination is conducted by the Central Board Of Secondary Education to recruit teachers in central government institutions. CTET is conducted twice a year. The result of this exam is valid up to 7 years from the declaration of the result. There is also an absence of negative marking. The exam pattern includes two sets, Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Paper 1 has the following sections: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language 1, Language 2, Mathematics and Environmental Studies, all with 30 questions of one mark each. The total duration of the first paper is 150 minutes, and the total marks are 150.
Paper 2 has the following sections: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language 1, Language 2, which are all of 30 questions with one mark each, and Mathematics/Science or Social Science/ Studies with 60 questions of one mark each. The total duration of the exam is 150 minutes, and the total number of marks is 150.
CTET teachers have a pay range between Rs.9,300/–Rs.34,800/-. And allowances are also provided.
LIC Apprentice Development Officer (ADO)
LIC is the most profitable Government insurance company in India. Apprentice Development Officer can be termed as the easiest exam to crack within the insurance sector. The recruitment process comprises three stages: Prelims, Mains and Personal Interview. Unlike other insurance exams, the ADO exam has an absence of negative marking in prelims as well as in mains. English is the qualifying round, and thus, it is attractive to candidates who have difficulty in the language.

LIC ADO has a basic pay grade of Rs. 21,875/-and after the addition of other allowances and perks, the in-hand salary increases to around Rs.38,000/-LIC ADO has an exciting career opportunity. After the initial apprentice period of about one 1year, you become eligible for promotion to Probationary Development Officer and further can even be promoted to the Regional Manager post.
State PSC
In addition to exams conducted on a national level for central government job posts, different state-level governments conduct state level exams for the recruitment of officials in different positions. The State Government also recruits for various positions within the state. Compared to national level exams, state exams are easier due to the level of competition majorly coming from within the state and the lesser number of candidates. The syllabus and exam pattern is different for various states.
