BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) is a body formed by the constitution of India to select applicants for civil service jobs in the state of Bihar. Its initial headquarters was situated at Ranchi. Presently, the headquarters have been shifted to Jharkhand on 1st March 1951. Shri Rajandhari Sinha chaired the first office of the Bihar Public Service Commission. Presently, requires a presiding officer, a secretary, and additional six members to stay in operation. The present chairman of the Bihar Public Service Commission is Shri R.K.Mahajan.

The Bihar Public Service Commission selection procedure is conducted in three stages- The preliminary exam, the main exam, and finally, the interview. The Preliminary exam is a multiple-choice question exam containing 150 questions of 1 mark each with no negative markings. The main exams have total coverage of 1200 marks.  Moreover, finally, the interview is a one-on-one interaction with the interviews to judge your personality and knowledge.

Role of Bihar Public Service Commission

The Bihar Public Service Commission is not only formed to conduct the  Bihar Public Service Commission examinations. It has a long list of functions to do, including-

• Advising the State Government on the matters related to recruitment to various services and posts, framing and amendment of Recruitment Rules.

• Recruitment by the conduct of Competitive Examinations/ through interviews to the services of the State Government.

• Advising the State Government on the suitability of officers on appointment on promotion and transfer from one service to the other.

• Advising the State Government on any matter referred to the Commission by the Governor of Bihar.

• Advising the State Government in all disciplinary cases relating to different civil services.

• Advising the State Government in granting extraordinary pension, reimbursement of legal expenses, etc.

Recruitment procedure for the civil service jobs in the state of Bihar by Bihar Public Service Commission

There are two processes followed to recruit people for the civil service jobs-

1. The academic procedure- this way, the candidates have to clear the three-level level of examinations, preliminary, mains, and final interview, to get selected.

2. Promotion- here, people already working for the Bihar government but for a lower post get promoted.

The Preliminary exam of the Bihar Public Service Commission

The first level exam is called the preliminary. It has 150 questions, all one marker, and you get 2 hours for this paper. The main exams of the Bihar Public Service Commission

The final and the most demanding level of the Bihar Public Service Commission exam is the interview level. You have to clear all the previous levels to appear for this one.
